In 75 innings pitched, he compiled a 7-3 record, picked up 4 saves and finished with a 2.64 earned run average.The next season, he was the top reliever for the team, finished with a 2.41 earned run average, a 5-6 record and 18 saves in 97 innings pitched. His career was cut short in 1970 by a torn rotator cuff.In December 1968,the Houston Astros traded outfielder Dick Simpson to the New York Yankeesfor Womack.In the 1969 season,Womack pitched for both the Houston Astros and for the Seattle Pilots.In 1970, the Pilots moved to Milwaukee to become the Brewers.
