Spencer Gettys, who played in the Negro Leagues, died on Nov. 18, 2004. He was 88.

According to information at NLBPA.com, Gettys played catcher for the Bacharach Giants in 1937.

Gettys was a retired stonemason and, according to his obituary, he returned to college when he was in his 60s to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education.
