Robert Cremins, who pitched four games for the Red Sox in 1927, died on March 27, 2004 at his home in Pelham, N.Y. He was 98.
At the time of his death, Cremins was the second-oldest former baseball player behind Ray Cunningham.
In 1927, he posted a 5.06 ERA in 5.1 innings for the Red Sox. According to his obituary, Cremins faced Babe Ruth once and the legendary slugger grounded out. Cremins’ baseball career ended in 1928 due to an injury.
Cremins served in the military in World War II. His life after baseball also included serving as town supervisor and tax receiver for Pelham.
He married his wife, Gertrude, in 1935. She died in 1969.
