Jimmie Armstead Jr.

Died: Nov. 9, 2006 in Louisville, Ky.

Jimmie Armstead Jr., who played in the Negro Leagues, died on Nov. 9, 2006. He was 87.

Armstead played in the Negro Leagues from 1938 to 1951. The teams he played for include the St. Louis Stars, Philadelphia Stars and Baltimore Elite Giants.

He joined the Air Force during World War II and trained to be a pilot at the Tuskegee Army Airfield in Alabama. He never got the chance to fly as part of the famed squadron.

Following his career as a player, he worked as a mason in New York.  According to his obituary, Armstead worked on a number of major projects including Madison Square Garden.
