Click here for detailsJack Tighe Born: Sept. 1, 1913 in Kearny, NJ Died: Aug. 1, 2002Debut: 1957 | Pos: ManagerJack Tighe, the managerof the Detroit Tigers in 1957and 1958, died Aug. 1, 2002 at the age of88.In all, he spent 52 yearsin baseball including serving as the Detroit manager in 1957 when the teamfinished fourth with a 78-76 record. In 1958, the Tigers started out 21-28and were in fifth place when he was fired and replaced by Bill Norman. Tighe’s major league record was a total of 99-104.In 1968, he was named Minor League Manager of the Year by the Sporting News when his Toledo Mud Hens, a Detroit farm club, won the championship for the International League. He was a full-time employee of the Tigers organization until 1982 and he worked in other capacities for the club until 1990.Tighe was a minor leaguecatcher with Charleston, West Virginia, in 1936. From 1940-41, he was aplayer-manager for Muskegon of the Michigan State League. Tighe was inductedinto the Muskegon Area Sports Hall of Fame in 1988. Source: Associated Press
