Bill Stafford played forthe New York Yankees (1960-65) and the Kansas City Athletics (1966-67).He finished his career with a 43-40 record, with a 3.52 ERA in 786 inningspitched. He also collected 9 saves.In an interview, his wife, Sharon Stafford, said Bill considered playing for the Dodgers, but signed with the Yankees because “the Dodgers would not give Bill a pair of spikes. The Yankees did.”During the 1961 season, Staffordfinished with a 14-9 record with a 2.68 ERA in 195 innings pitched.
