Joe Decker, who pitched for the Cubs in the early 1970s, died on March 2, 2003, from head injuries he received in a fall at his home. He was 55 years old.

Decker pitched in 9 seasons in the major leagues and compiled a 36-44 record with a 4.17 ERA.

His best season came in 1974 with the Twins when he finished 16-14 in 37 starts with a 3.29 ERA. That season, he pitched 248.2 innings with 11 complete games and 158 strikeouts.

The previous season, he was 10-10 for the Twins. He career ended with Seattle in 1979.
