He was 73.Tappe debuted with Cincinnati on Sept. 14, 1950 as a pinch-hitter and hit a home run off Brooklyn’s Erv Palica. He hit a total of five home runs in his career that spanned 58 at-bats in 34 games.In October 1954, Cincinnati traded Tappe, along with Jim Bolger and Harry Perkowski to the Cubs for Johnny Klippstein and Jim Willis.
