Next thing you know, you find yourself attending his games and serving as his personal mascot.That was the life for young Ray Kelly. Babe Ruth met the boy in Manhattan and liked his so much that he invited him to his game during his time in New York.Kelly, who died November 11, 2001, was also there the day that Babe Ruth hit his fabled “called shot” off the Cubs’ Charlie Root.”Babe Ruth took his arm and elevated it over Root’s head,” Kelly said once in an interview. “I’ve read four or five different books that said he was pointing at Root. That’s baloney!”Kelly is survived by a wife, 5 children, 3 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
