He died on June 18, 2002, in Tampa, Fla.He made his debut on Sept. 13, 1962 with the Washington Senators. He appeared in 3 games, pitching 13.1 innings and striking out 10. He finished with a 0-1 record and 4.05 ERA. In 1963, he pitched 12.1 innings in 4 games, striking out 5 and finished with an 0-2 record and a 5.84 ERA. He pitched one inning for the Dodgers in 1969. Jenkins was a rarity for pitchers — he wore a single digit number on his uniform. At the end of 2001, there had only been 11 pitchers since 1960 to wear single digits.
