Ted Abernathy, also listed as Tal Abernathy, who played for the Athletics in parts of three seasons, died on Nov. 16, 2001 in Charlotte, N.C.

In 20.1 innings in the majors, he compiled an 0-3 record with a 11.07 ERA.  He pitched 2.2 innings in a single game in 1942, 14.2 innings in 5 games in 1943 and 3 innings in one game in 1944.  In 1943, he finished with an 0-3 record and 12.89 ERA.

Following baseball, he worked in the textile industry and retired as a superintendent.
