Arthur W. Anderson

Arthur W. Anderson, a founding member of the San
Antonio Black Sox of the South Texas Negro League, died Jan. 15, 2004.  He
was 85.

According to published reports, the Black Sox were one
of the best teams in the league and players credited Anderson as much of the
reason.  Anderson’s duties included serving as the team’s manager

Anderson had worked at Kelly Air Force Base for 37
years and was part-time bartender at the old Lone Star Brewery.

The Black Sox played from the 1940s to the 1970s and
the South Texas Negro League was one of the last active Negro Leagues in
baseball.
